Dérailleur Problem, but it was fun!
A bicycle came in for a service today with a dérailleur problem. It looked quite routine until I found out that neither of the gear controls was working at all.
Off came the handlebar grips, off came the brake levers and finally off came the gear controls. I was then able to look inside the gear controls properly.
The controls contained small pawls which engaged on a ratchet to hold each gear in it’s correct place. All of the pawls were seized in both controls. WD40 and much pawl wiggling finally solved the problem.
I spent the whole morning “servicing” this bicycle. Did I charge extra? Of course not. I like to please my customers.
Dérailleur problem solved!
